Power Protection Strategy: Choose between centralized, zone, or distributed power availability architecture

Centralized power availability architecture The "Centralized" power availability solution is the traditional approach to selecting power availability for a large project. Estimate the total load expected over the life of the project. Select a UPS with enough headroom to accomodate the estimate. Select one which offers a power factor corrected design with the ability to build in N+1 redundancy to your network power infrastructure. One that with a small footprint makes an excellent choice for large centralized power requirements.

Zone power availability architecture The "Zone-based" power availability solution for a fast growing business breaks down the total load into more manageable segments. Able to power multiple racks of network equipment, a modular or scalable unit can protect a "zone." The modular design of a UPS allows the user to configure a single chassis. The system power grows with the business. As the "zone" of equipment taps the capacity of the UPS another zone may be started on another chassis. This "zone-based" architecture uses precious corporate capital more efficiently and raises the ROI of the investment in power availability.

Distributed power availability architecture The "Distributed" power availability solution uses smaller individual UPS to protect a single rack of equipment. As the number of racks grows within the business, the number of UPSs grows in direct proportion. This power architecture solution could be used where there are tight capital constraints on a business which prohibit a large outlay of funding for unused power infrastructure.

Avaya Wins Best in VoiceCon Award for Avaya one-X Quick EditionAvaya Wins Best in VoiceCon Award for Avaya one-X Quick EditionpadAvaya Wins Best in VoiceCon Award for Avaya one-X Quick Edition

In a second consecutive win, Avaya is chosen by VoiceCon conference attendees for providing "new and exceptionally compelling enterprise voice products and/or services"; Avaya one-X Quick Edition is a simple plug-and-play IP telephony solution that reduces costs and complexity while providing the most commonly used telephony features

For Immediate Release: 09-Mar-2006

ORLANDO, FLORIDA: VoiceCon 2006 —Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV), a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, has won the Best In VoiceCon® Award for Avaya one-X Quick Edition, an innovative Internet Protocol (IP) telephony solution for very small businesses and small branches of enterprises. Avaya one-X Quick Edition was selected by a vote of attendees at VoiceCon® 2006, the leading conference and exhibition for enterprise voice, IP Telephony and convergence in North America.

Avaya one-X Quick Edition is a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based peer-to-peer solution that is simple to set up and use. All the software is in the phone. No need for a communications server or advanced installation skills. Simply plug the Avaya IP phones into the Local Area Network (LAN). The phones automatically "discover" each other, start-up their features, and provide back-up for one another. In minutes users have access to the most commonly used telephony applications, including voicemail, conferencing and auto-attendant. As an office grows, new employees can be added to the system by simply adding a new phone.

"We congratulate Avaya for winning a second consecutive Best in VoiceCon Award," said Fred Knight, general manager, VoiceCon. "VoiceCon attracts top IT professionals from around the world, and it is an impressive accomplishment for Avaya one-X Quick Edition to impress these discerning technology experts."

Technology from Avaya's 2005 acquisition of Nimcat Networks was used in designing Avaya one-X Quick Edition. The solution meets the needs of small offices by providing a select group of popular communication features and functionality, without requiring detailed technical knowledge and expertise. It is ideally suited for very small business and standalone branch offices with less than 20 phones. In addition to Avaya IP phones, the solution offers a small gateway to gain access to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

"It is a tremendous honor to win this award by a vote of the IT professionals who attend VoiceCon, one of the industry’s most influential events," said Geoffrey Baird, Avaya vice president and general manager, Communication Appliances Division. "Very small businesses and branch offices have been looking for a way to enhance competitive advantage using sophisticated Intelligent Communications, without complex set-up and management requirements. We are very pleased to provide Avaya one-X Quick Edition, a solution that meets the unique needs of this important, growing market."

Avaya solutions, including Avaya one-X Quick Edition, were shown at VoiceCon 2006 in Kissimmee, FL, March 6 – 8. Also on display were Avaya’s industry-leading Avaya Modular Messaging and Unified Communication Center, solutions for unified messaging and speech access. These solutions, in use today by thousands of companies worldwide, illustrate the most up-to-date capabilities of Avaya SIP-based unified communications. For all information on Avaya's strategy, product and services announcements at the show, look at our virtual press kit at www.avaya.com/media.

The solution is available now in North America and will be available globally later this year. To learn more about Avaya one-X Quick Edition, visit www.avaya.com.
